Johann Nestroy (1801 - 1862) war ein österreichischer Dramatiker und Schauspieler, dessen Werk als literarischer Höhepunkt des Alt-Wiener Volkstheaters gilt. Für
Egon Friedell war er aber auch "ein echter Philosoph", was er mit dieser Auswahl von Nestroy-Worten belegen will.
Friedell hat der Sammlung eine lesenswerte Einleitung vorangestellt.
