I basically find the Oasis 2 battery life is almost totally dependent on lighting setting and whether wi-fi, 3G and/or Bluetooth are enabled. Turn them all off and battery life is excellent unless the unit hangs up indexing a book. Every one of the "features" eats battery power if enabled.
As for screen lighting during the day the screen background tint looks just like the one on the G8 Kindle Basic with the lighting off or the color of most paperback books and newspaper's paper color. With appreciable lighting on it looks more like a expensive coated paper art book, very white.
