Regarding selection / hghlighting, my KA1 got much more accurate in the latest firmware releases. It’s still not perfect, but it’s 10x better than it was a year ago. Hopefully that’s a trend that will continue.
The footnotes are a function of the epub spec, if you convert to kepub there is a much better system. This is definitely necessary to do for books where footnotes are important.
In all other respects I agree completely the OP’s points.
