A big difference between the American and the German sites is that the latter doesn't offer books for download. You have to read them on-screen - unless you convert them to epub with this nice online tool:

And I'm surprised that your url works. I always thought it was http://gutenberg.spiegel.de/ -- weirdly, the sites seem to be identical.
