Are Metadata plugboards the same as the Metadata reader and Metadata source plugins? How do you set them up?

Alright. That part seems easy enough.
Also, how can I keep the book file with the edited metadata in my Kindle? For example by saving to disk? Or is that not advisable and I should keep the file with the edited data only on my Kindle?
