In a bright environment 22 is not too bright, it is not even particularly noticeable, so it does seem to be a waste of battery. But there may be some that think it looks better and is worth the battery usage.

Also, 22 on the PW3 and the 7" Oasis are not necessarily the same. They are just arbitrary numbers, like some amplifiers that go to 10 and others that go to 11.
