But as it's written in the link above: The registration procedure is only "really" necessary if it's not possible to access the USB storage area and/or the UYK command is not accessible. This is the case for the KOA2 (the link refers to that model only). And (AFAIRC) for very old 5.x PW/Vojage firmwares, where UYK may not be used prior to register the device first.
KOA1, PW3, KT3, KV and other currently selling non-KOA2 devices allow the access to the USB storage right out of the box and have the UYK menu entry. In these cases preregistering is not necessary (and also not to remove parental control etc., as they naturally also can't be set ...). Just copy the factory fw file to the USB root, and then use UYK command. Only if this isn't there, you should register your Kindle with Amazon...
