Sorry, but no. This is a basic limitation of the Android widget we use for the grouping drawer. If the drawer is open then the book list/grid is locked.
However, if you close the grouping drawer, scroll the book list, then reopen the drawer you should see the same content in the drawer. You get sort-of what you want with two extra horizontal swipes.
