Higher resolution may be another area: Seiko Epson recently announced a prototype of very high resolution e-paper -- looks like it is more than 300 dpi (probably B/W only), although only about half the size of current e-paper readers. This looks very interesting: but I hope they develop some really fast refresh mechanism while they're about it ...
