Really strange, as it seems like most people downgrade with no trouble and the kindle is supposed to check the integrity of the file before downgrading anyway...

Did it work as expected, was the update successful? As you had no screen, are you sure you've been able to correctly start the update?

If you upgraded to 5.9.x while not being properly jailbroken, I'm afraid there isn't much you can do other than blocking updates and waiting.
