Honestly, there isn't anyone to hire. The one person who I could potentially hire to help me just had knee replacement surgery. She's worse off than I at the moment.
I tried having one of my best friends in the area come over to help me, but as much as I love her ....she's a total spaz at this sort of stuff. For example, she put all the litter box covers in backwards. That meant that I kept hearing these screams and plops as cats jumped to what should be a platform, only to fall though the hole and into the litter box. I had to get up, fix all the covers, and then clean up loads of poop on the floor left by angry cats.
Better just to do it myself in the long run, no matter how much it hurts. I noticed today, that although my left hand is still hugely swollen, as long as I'm in my splint, opening the cat food cans is not too bad. Typing for very long .... not so good. However, emotionally it's a great outlet, so I'm going to do it anyway.
The only really painful chore tonight will be getting the fitted bottom sheet on the bed. I may just lie on a clean quilt tonight and save it for tomorrow. I have one of those super deep memory foam mattresses and the sheets are plain old hell to get on there .... even when I can use both hands.
