On the Max, a screenshot is triggered by simultaneously pressing both the page forward and page backward buttons. Not sure if it is the same on the Max2.

Thank you, this is good to know! It indeed works the same way on Max 2. For this case, I will probably spend a few hours re-creating the highlights as this is a book I'll be working through end-to-end (~500 pages), and want to avoid having some parts as images, other parts as PDF highlights.
I bought the Max 2 to be able to work through and annotate papers and books with sometimes hundreds of pages. This placed nagging doubts of its reliability in the back of my head -- I don't want to lose any work in the future. I sent feedback to Onyx about the bug, but I don't know if/when it will be fixed. I wonder whether, as the annotation data is *in* the Max 2 somewhere, it can still be exported somehow as PDF annotations.
