Sorry your NOOK has been giving you problems, although I'm glad you shared the information. I use a PC and have had similar frustrations. Since you're using a MAC it strongly suggests the NOOK is the problem. There is a separate thread here on the NOOK board talking about the shelves disappearing. I have not been able to get any solid information from B&N customer service.
If you notice anything else, please post it. Over time we might be able to figure out what's going on.
