I live in Canada and my Kindle (PW) doesn't have ads on a lock screen. (And I don't have the "recommended reads" thing on the home screen either as I can toggle it off and on) they just have those screen images. But I only see them once in a while when I leave my kindle idle without shutting the cover. In Canada the Paperwhite normally costs $139.00 though, and I got it on a Black Friday sale in November for $99.
