I have five Onyx devices. Never had an issue with physical resistance. Of course, I treat them respectfully. I carry them in buffered covers, and for the big ones have added rigid sheets as extra screen protection.

If you are accident prone, you should really organize buffers around the edges of any "e-reader" shaped device you will decide upon. If commercial products are not available, you could maybe visit your DYI store.
