I can't help thinking three things:

That saying, "Would you mind if I reached past you for a moment ?" or some such variation, putting the onus on the speaker and not the other person, would get better results.
That compassion for all types of infirmity is always a good thing.
That applying negative characteristics to any demographic group is always unfortunate unless there's direct causality. There are always exceptions; groups rarely act in lockstep and those outside the group can exhibit the same characteristic.
