That's the thing about Language and Rules.

Many think they are hard and fast and surely set in stone, which is totally incorrect.

I believe in the scientific approach myself, where Logic is paramount.

And I don't care who made up some rule many years gone, if it is dumb it is dumb, and should be changed, and is changed by those that have the wit to see.

And the thing about this big wide world, is that not all languages and cultures or even societies agree on the same things.

And sometimes outdated things are held up by arrogance or snobbery and inflexibility.

Language is a living growing changing beast, and tying it to a bunch of rules that don't make logical sense, especially in the modern context, is foolish.

Like the word 'Marriage'. No-one owns it and no-one can set its definition in concrete. Sure they can try, but ultimately these things evolve or change ... like the word Gay and its meaning.

So those who prefer 'lighted' to 'lit' and 'doughnut' to 'donut' etc, enjoy them while you can.

Too many rules a good life does not make.

So in light of all that, "who's rules" is very pertinent. And "by what right" is also pertinent. Very valid questions they are.
