My knowledge of the history and geography of the East leaves a lot to be desired. But, after making that post, I did think about Singapore and Hong Kong.

I knew that the Brits were in Singapore until it was taken by the Japanese near the beginning of WW II. I assume that Britain must have gotten it back for a while after hostilities ceased. I think that Britain had a 99-year lease on Hong Kong from the Chinese. Britain returned it to the Chinese, perhaps earlier than stipulated in the lease; at any rate, it was returned about 25 years ago. I think that it was a ceremony connected with that I watched then on live TV.

But _that_ is about all that I know about the subject.
