Hi there,
Am 02xda2, joined this community today (was browsing since a few days)
Picked a Demo Kindle 8th Gen unit from grey market with an intention to convert it to normal and read many a posts on these forums about that.
Connected serial ports on the motherboard to a FTDI232 (used LDO 1117 for 1.8V)(did not connect the power point - saw a post without that on xodustech.com by one Mr. Travis Brown) and I could see the kindle thru Putty. So far so good…
I could not get to diags mode with ‘bootm 0xE41000’ though the device was rebooting promptly and stopping at Kindle System Login (a demo book running on the display) and while messing around got into Recovery mode and accidentally pressed ‘4’ (option 3 for mmc over usb was not working) which incidentally formatted the ‘mmc0’.
Tried to enter Recovery again, could not and tried to flash ‘update_KT3_5.8.0_initial.bin’ thru ‘bist - fastboot’ my win64 did not recognize the device and fastboot device never came up on system. (could extract the below files from above firmware with 'kindletool' -
data.stgz, data.stgz.sig, rootfs.img.gz, rootfs.img.gz.sig, update-J8-heisenberg_eanab-044.dat, update-J8-heisenberg_eanab-044.dat.sig, u-boot.bin, u-boot.bin.sig, uImage and uImage.sig)
And now Kindle boots but sits on ‘uboot’
Now need help to revive the kindle, please…. And this noob (am not a geek by any measure) now Calling on geekmaster, knc1, ixtab, NiLuJe, twobob and other champions from the corner…. Well there are too many !

Please…
