Elfstones of Shannara was the same price a couple of years ago when that book was adapted for Season 1 of the television series. Season 2 involved some time travel so we did eventually get introduced to Shea and saw a bit of Shady Vale.
I've seen it mentioned quite a few times that the first book was very heavily influenced by The Lord of the Rings, so it's going to be interesting to see just how fair that comparison is. When I get around to it, of course

My memory is that it came across as more D&D influenced than LoTR influenced. The series that I thought was heavily LoTR influenced was Mike Jeffries Road to Underfall and sequels. (That was one book I never finished I hated it that much.)
In all honesty, it's at least 20 years since I last read them; they aren't logged in my LibraryThing catalogue so they must have gone at least 10 years ago as I don't recall unpacking them when I finally moved my books to Cambridge 20 years ago. (I started out in a bedsit, and when I moved into my house, my late mother rather plaintively said 'now you've got your own place, darling, can I have my spare room back?')
