You know how you sometimes have a great memory of reading something (in horror), with an oppressive evil that seems to dominate a book? That was the kind of book this was for me. I read it when it first came out. It's a character-driven novel, back when only a few authors could write horror novels with actual characters in them. (Stephen King, Bentley Little, and Peter Straub immediately come to mind.)

How about that? I have The Pines and The Shore, but didn't know they were linked (The Streets is the third book).

I really need to go through some of my old Leisure Horror books and do some catching up.
