Was going to reply, sooner...but keep getting distracted by other posts and then forgetting to revisit this one
I have lots of eyesight issues too.... Officially, I'm near sighted with astigmatism in both eyes. My left has a stronger prescription than the right, and I'm right handed...but left eye dominant.
After that, I still have trouble seeing, where I have periods of time where my eyeballs will be a different shape and require a different prescription (there was one year where my prescription jumped around 3 times, eye doc now checks to see if my eye is 'normal' shape by comparing it with my previous visits...)
But, I've pretty much given up on being able to see clearly in the distance....if its important, I can take a picture and view it later, also do this to read fine print like product serial numbers... which lately is what fills up a large part of my photo library. The largest part is screen shots... Wish the mac had font size controls, guess I need to get larger monitors. Current have a pair of 23.5" displays...angled so I'm square with one, and the other is closer...
My distance vision seems to fade in the evening, probably due to too much upclose time.
These days I have three pairs of glasses. The general Progressive pair for when I go out, a single vision intermediate distance prescription for computer / house work. And, a single vision full-time reading prescription....for reading...tablets and e-readers.
I had considered at one time, getting an intermediate distance with bifocal for reading, since I'm sure to find a use for that. Though perhaps better would be figuring out the optimal prescription for watching my TV (or perhaps I need to rearrange things so I'll be closer)...and using tablet at the same time. But, I have been watching less and less TV lately....
On the subject as to a lot of us being nearsighted ... at an early age. I was 9 or 10 at the time. Was diagnosed as nearsighted before I rode my bike into a lamppost, but before my parents would get me my first pair. At the time, I could still see clearly to 12-14", and I was under pressure to eventually get a doctorate... so the only issue was whether being moved to the front row was sufficient or not to see the blackboard....
I preferred being near the back....
Anyways...having played with genetic testing, I get articles from time to time where I have the relevant markers....where I recall seeing an article last year about a gene that causes nearsightedness, but only in people that read a lot at an early age.
Shoot, how do I go back in time, and unread to get my eyesight back? Time machine manual print too small...
The Dreamer.
Oh, I can see small text clearly if I get really close, which I do sometimes.... but all the nose prints are kind of annoying.
