Yes, you will have to set up the device anew, including the registration. I do not think there is a need to factory reset the device. You can deinstall KSM, by selecting
"tools" > "ksm diverse.msh" > del KSM.sh." There will be some remaining parts, that you can manually remove by deleting the folder .adds/kbmenu_user.

It is possible, but not very convenient. You would select
  • "tools" > "activate" > "set runmenu settings.msh" > "never"
If you then would like to start KSM again, you would change the file ".adds/kbmenu_user/runsettings.txt" manually.
There are also other mods around to select between nickel and koreader, search for adv boot, fmon, and cute fmon, if you are interested.
