If you can see a cover after using Polish..., the cover is embedded and properly flagged.

Then this is a device issue. It has unique requirements (does not extract the cover for a bookshelf browser) or it simply behaves like a Kindle and does not open on the cover, but requires you to turn pages BACK to reach it.
