1. I am not in America, so buying straight from Kobo is not an option for me, so the original H2O is unavailable where I live. Finding a used unit is likelier, not to mention cheaper.
2. If you compare Kobo with Kindle/Nook, you have a point. But take a comparable Onyx Boox (hardware and function-wise) and you will get a cheaper price across the board + free shipping over the world.
And then there's this about Kobo: It does not work well with PDF files. To use PDF files, you have to
1. Buy a Kobo
2. Install an app on it that can work well with PDF files and
3. Ignore Kobo's interface henceforth
I find this silly. It makes more sense to buy a Pocketbook that works well with PDF files and enables convenient note-taking (even though highlighting is a pain). Or any Android tablet, to bypass the usability quirks that come with eink devices.
