Thank you for that. I hadn't actually timed Calibre. I just estimated it. I tried the debug -g as you suggested and it said it started in 2.58 seconds. So I guess my estimate was wrong.

I forget what SSD I have but I do remember when i bought it a little less than a year ago the reviews said it was a very fast one. I just looked and I can't easily find any information on it's type or brand.

I've been reading and accumulating ebooks since before they were called ebooks and storing them in folders by author all that time so I'm used to this method. I was using a laptop with a hard drive when I started Calibre so at that time I'm sure the difference was a lot greater than it is now. I guess I just hadn't caught up mentally with the faster computer I have now. So maybe using Calibre will be about as fast. Not much faster.

Well, the bright side is I made it to 77 years old before I made my first mistake.
