Amazon Control Of My Kindle

I can't believe I am the only one that this has happened to, so what did you guys do to fix this issue? I just got my Oasis 2 after a month of travel time, and I turned on whispersync to see if it would copy my page numbers of my open books and the books themselves to the Oasis. No it didn't. But what it did do, was tell me I can not create a collection called Stephen King on my Oasis because there is already a collection with that name on the cloud, from my Voyage. So I chat with cs. Can't turn off the cloud, my only option is to name my SK collection to Stephen King 2 or whatever. Not what I want to do. Is there anyway I name my collection what I want? Nope sorry. Well of course there is. I just created a new Amazon account with a new email address, deregistered my Oasis from the account I purchased it on, and re registered it under the new account. Now I can name my collections anything I like. I really really don't like having Amazon in control of things that I purchase from them. Where will it end? 1984 is coming I guess. At the very least, there should be an option to turn off the use of the cloud. I have no interest in it, never use it. But I do buy books from Amazon occasionally , and I keep my OS current so I do need to turn on WiFi now and then. So how you you guys and gals, with more than one kindle eBook reader dealt with this issue? Thanks.
