I understand there are always people who are way above or below average with regard to reading times and front-light usage. I do think, however, that the number of people reading 15 hours a day in a dark room with the front-light set at 100% is quite low

No one said anything about 100% brightness for 15 hours. I commented on hours of read time. Desk commented about brightness.
People should set the brightness at what is comfortable for them. For me, that is low. For my husband it is about 50% or more.
Now is someone is so worried about the battery life that they will turn the light down so low that the device is almost unreadable, they should sell all battery powered devices and read paper.
Look I rightly don't give a rat's behind what anyone thinks is normal.
There is no normal usage on a device. They can figure an average.
Average does not mean a person.
It means you take the low end users and the high end users and everyone in between to get a rough idea of a time frame of a battery or anything else for that matter.
