I don't think we're allowed to discuss this much in these forii so I don't think you'll get much help here. I will say that there's no real installation program, as I recall. It's been a while. You just tell Calibre where to find the plugin.

I suggest as pdurrant said, that you try again. It's not very difficult and it's wonderfully useful. Once the plugin is installed you don't do anything to remove DRM. You just convert the book and it's all taken care of for you.
