Trollnight by British author Peter Tremayne (

Wikipedia), perhaps best known as the author of the popular Sister Fidelma historical mystery series, is his standalone creature feature horror thriller, this one taking place in Norway where an American scientist begins investigating the sudden mysterious death of his visiting sister, who had been helping an archaeological team dig into ancient things best left undisturbed, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Venture imprint.
This was originally published in 1987 by Sphere and was later reprinted by Severn House. I must say that although I don't read these things because I'm squeamish, I appreciate that Tremayne seems to have been drawing upon a worldwide stock of mythologies for his assorted creature feature horror thrillers in a subgenre where sticking to the perennial popular standards would also seem to provide a perfectly cromulent career path for many.

Description
When American scientist Tony Stevens hears that his young sister Ann has been killed in a skiing accident in Oslo, he refuses to believe it. She hated heights, would never risk descending the treacherous glacier slopes so rapidly – unless she was fleeing for her life.
