The only way you can read an ePub on a Mac, and for that matter a PC running Windows (I assume your PC runs some version of Windows), is by running an ebook reading app. So to help track down your actual problem, you need to tell us:
- What version of the macOS are you using?
- What version of Windows does your PC use?
- What application are you using to read the ePub on Windows (app name and version)
- What application are you attempting to use to read the ePub on you Mac or are you simply double-clicking on the ePub in the hopes that the macOS will find and launch an appropriate application?
- EXACTLY what happens when you attempt to open the ePub on your Mac?
One likely problem is that you have an ePub that is "burdened" with DRM (Digital Rights Management). If you are using a compatible ebook reader on your PC that is registered to the same account as your Kobo (usually an Adobe based reader) then it will open fine there and you must install a similar Adobe based reader on your Mac and register that reader to the same Adobe account to read it on a Mac.
Apple's own ebook reader, iBooks, can read plain ePubs, but can't read those burdened with any DRM other than Apple's own. iBooks is the app that recent macOS versions will launch by default when you double-click on an ePub file so if the ePub has DRM you will receive an error message and the book will not open.
