I put the 5.7.4 bin in the root, then I rebooted the Kindle: it automatically started updating. When finished, it rebooted again: but the device was bricked. It all exactly went like described in this post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=275975

Problem is that I found it too late. I used the DO_FACTORY_RESET method, and my Kindle mass storage became, indeed, unreadable. Now, this is not a problem for me: Amazon will deliver a substitute Kindle in 48 hours. It's just that now I wouldn't want to brick another Kindle.

So I ask you: did I do something which directly caused the jailbreak?
I read that 5.xx.xx.1 models can do a single downgrade, if they have never been connected to the internet. Problem is that I had already registered my Kindle, and I had also successfully installed the voiceview image (I read this indicated that the Kindle could be jailbroken). So I did not follow reports closely enough, because I didn't believe I would brick.

Thanks in advance.
