Good you found a solution. The newer devices support sideloading fonts and then you can select the font when reading. I don't know if this can be done on the WiFi or not.

Are you sure it was a doesn't support message? The current version of calibre should support all Kobo devices and all released firmware versions. And for the WiFi, there hasn't been a new firmware release for a long time. So, unless you installed a very old version of calibre, there should be no problems.
