Because you need a copy of the firmware to be able to patch it and as long as you have the firmware to patch, why not side load it instead of waiting for it to sync? I don't sync firmware as I would also have eBooks syncing as well. I don't sync eBooks I buy from Kobo. I side load via Calibre. That way, I can fix the generic covers and anything else that needs fixing before loading.
