Bluetooth is an impure technology. When it works, it's great. But it is always a bit iffy. I'm not a Bluetooth engineer, so can't say for sure, but I strongly suspect it has to do with the design decisions that had to be made to keep the power requirements low. That was an important criteria, but it has had consequences, IMHO.
