I find I can rack up a fair number of steps in a supermarket. You feel like an idiot swiftly walking up and down aisles but I figure it helps. Obviously you need to pick a bigger market and go when it's not busy so you're not dodging carts and shoppers.

"Mallwalking" is a thing here; it wouldn't be worth it for me to drive to a mall just to walk and I dislike malls on general principle, but the supermarket is a closer compromise and I can do my grocery shopping while I'm at it so it's not entirely time wasted.
