While not for everyone, I find that just not using Nickel solves many potential problems. Also, never "updating" the Kobo firmware has kept my AuraHDs running fine. (I remain on a 3.x firmware). I would try to help with these recent issues, but being on a firmware that doesn't create such problems and one that makes my results less than useful, for those using current firmware, I don't see it as a productive endeavor. Sorry, I can't be of any help.
