Yes, I'll save books sometimes; it's one reason why I have so many going at one time!

I'm the early bird in my family, so when we go on vacation, I can expect to have at least an hour in the morning to myself, and I will usually have a book that I have "saved" in anticipation.

In your case, I think I would save the awful book until I came back and instead pick up a book I've read before. Since you already know how it ends, you can enjoy the alternate book now and then put it aside when your vacation starts. You could bring both books with you in case you happen to finish the vacation book early. The "awful" book will be waiting for you when you get home, and it might not be as bad once you've gotten your saved book out of the way!
