When I had a problem with my screen due to a bad firmware upgrade, one of the things that O-B suggested was rooting it, and they provided a link & instructions. I wasn't able to do this myself (as the screen was completely illegible). Unfortunately the link no longer works.

As a side note, we really do need a stickied archive of this sort of information. Digging through old threads to find it (even if you know which thread and approximately when) is a pain in the arse.
