The fault is with the software you are using on the laptop. Just tell it to keep is as .doc
Otherwise, note that Kingsoft can save in .doc, .docx, .pdf, .txt . As you should know, the Portable Document Format (.pdf) is an electronic printout - not for further editing -, and the "text only" (.txt) loses all formatting retaining only the text. If you are more comfortable, considering what you are using on the laptop, you can use the .docx format (a very bad "Open XML") for storage and interchange instead of the .doc . Nonetheless, whatever word processor you are using on the laptop, it should accept .doc files.
