Just browsing the rootfs.img, found "opt/amazon/data.whitelist" which contains the following lines:

./system/fonts/ja.font
./system/fonts/zh-Hans.font
./system/fonts
./system
....

So it looks right now font update will only work for Japanese and Simplified Chinese.
Keep digging.
