Failure getting russian books readable on Sony PRS-600

Hi everyone!
I made a couple successful attempts converting books (written in Russian) from doc/rtf to ePub format. However - my fault - I did not thoroughly document the process, and now seems like I am completely stuck. Whatever I am doing following the suggestions found online (installing the EPUB Font embedding plugin, modifying the CSS styles sheet), the converted books are not readable. Moreover, what's most confusing is that after I add a rtf file to the library it immediately becomes unreadable inside the Calibre. Oh, yes, I am using Calibre ver. 3.13/64-bit. What happens looks like follows: I have an rtf file that - being open in MS Word displays cyrillic fonts correctly. Moreover, I save it with "Embed the fonts in the file" Word option (using the Liberation serif fonts). Now I add that file to the Calibre library. After it gets added Calibre copies it to the declared library location, simply renaming it according to preferences. Then - when I try viewing this file inside the Calibre - the Calibre viewer does not display cyrillic correctly, but rather the "generic" font symbols (hence there is nothing to expect after conversion to ePub, right?), but if I open the copied file again with the MS Word, it looks OK. It seems like during adding a file to the library Calibre changes something. What exactly? Can it be related to that I upgraded Calibre from ver. 3.12 to 3.13?
Another fact though: when I copy the rtf (with seemingly embedded fonts) directly to the device, the device also fails to display the cyrillic font correctly.
I will appreciate your help! THanks everyone for help,
Mike Faynberg
