My steamers are bamboo baskets sitting in water filled iron woks. Used year round, several times a week. I have to replace the baskets quite frequently, I smash them up and put them in the green waste bin.

When it comes to cooking, which I enjoy, I'm a Luddite, stove is gas, only powered appliances are: a fridge that's too big, a Swiss espresso extravagance, and el-cheapo electric jug. Everything else is good quality and hand operated - very sharp knives and mortar-and-pestles are essential .

Outside tandoori ovens seem to be trending down here. Couple of friends have recently acquired them - alongside their crematoriums barbecues.
