An unlocked phone is better if you ever want to use it for phone service. It will have more LTE bands than no contract phones an you can use it for any carrier. A no contract phone usually has only the bands for that specific carrier. Another way it's better is that you won't have any of those pesky carrier apps that you can't remove.
