Simon Birch is the name of the movie. It was based on A Prayer For Owen Meany. John Irving didn't think that book would work as a movie, so while he gave permission for the adaptation, he asked them to change the name. He came up with the name Simon Birch.
And
The Door in the Floor is probably the best movie based on John Irving's work (though I did also enjoy Simon Birch, The World According to Garp and The Cider House Rules). Some critics said (gasp!) that the movie was better than the book.
