I would have liked to buy a Kobo for my kid, but unfortunately--on terms of functionality--Kobo cannot compete even against a cheap K8th.

In terms of eInk and PDF, I just don't bother with PDF. It just doesn't work well. I've seen PDF on Sony Readers, Kindle, Kobo, nook, and I would say to forget PDF. An iPad is much better for PDF.
