As I recall, calibre was born as libprs500 in late 2006/early 2007 to work with the Sony PRS-500 and Linux with the BBeB/LRF ebook format. Since then, it has grown and become one of my must-have programs -- for ebooks, Sigil and Calibre and I'm happy. And, yes, calibre is not supposed to be capitalized but my typing reflexes have this need to capitalize proper names.
