I got started with ebooks five years ago, the latest ereaders available in local shops were Sony T1 and Kobo Glo, with the Kindle Paperwhite still a few weeks away (released but reserved for US customers).
The features that decided it at the time were frontlight (Kobo and Kindle only), expandable storage (Kobo and Sony only), and public library access (Kobo and Sony only), so I got the Kobo.
