I'm not an expert, but I've seen comments from several other people who know a lot more about batteries than I do, that for the type of battery in the iLiad the "best practice" is to top them off frequently and not let them run down. It gets more technical (and I don't know all the details), but it has to do with how the batteries are constructed and being healthiest without the stress/heat of a large charge cycle.
I've seen guidelines for lithium-ion batteries that state to prolong their life they should be "charged early and often" and not "deep-cycled", unless they are going to be stored for a long time without being used. For long storage without use they should first be brought to a 40% - 60% charge level.
