@nyanyan: At this point, the thing to do is put a couple of books on the device and read them. Just drop the books in the root directory of the device and eject the device. Forget about anything else, and just use the device for a few days. And poke, tap, long press and swipe around the device. That way you will find a lot of what it can do. After a few days, you will have an idea of what you like, don't like and what you want to change. And what questions to ask.
If you read Manga, it comes in different formats. Two are CBZ and CBR. These are just renamed zip and rar files containing the images. The Kobo devices handle these well. But, some people prefer to convert to epub or kepub for reading. I don't read manga or comics, so I'm not the person to ask about this.
Calibre is a library management application. Once you have a few books, you need something to manage them, and I don't know of anything that comes close to calibre for this. It can manage the books, convert formats and communicate with most devices.
KOReader is alternative reader software. It's popular for those who don't like the Kobo software and particularly if PDF reading is important. It is also available for other devices.
